Educational Technology Research      Understanding how deep technology is rooted in our student’s lives will help us, as teachers, connect and engage the students.    I was aware that there was a large increase in the use of technology for Generation Z; however, the statics in McCrindle ’s infographic from 2014 impacted me the most in this week’s blog.    It indicated that Gen Z uses technology for 10 hours and 19 minutes a day!          When I look at this in terms of how many hours students are awake, I realize that majority of their day is spent on a screen.     With this in mind, teachers need to be more aware of how this affects the day-to-day instruction for their current learners.    For example, effective engagement has completely changed from the teacher doing, to the students trying.    I am not surprised by this, as I have been in the classroom and seen the changes evolve, but...
Active Learning What is active learning? Active learning is becoming an important fact to today's teaching. Active learning is when students are taking responsibility for their own learning.  Active learning is walking away from the old traditional teaching style and making teaching more engaging. Teachers act more as facilitators and students take more accountability.  Why active learning? I think that to fully be a successful teacher, you need to understand the group of students you teach. I, am a Generation Y student. Therefore, I can slightly relate to my students because they fall into Generation Z. These students are being introduced to technology at a very young age which makes them think they know everything. Students in today's century are attached to their phones as if the phone was part of who they are. As stated in the presentation,  Understanding Today's Students , "It's as if messing with their phone is the same as messing with them." You will b...
Technology Trends in Education         After reading " The Hottest Topics in Edtech in 2021 " I realized that technology is turning out to be a fundamental tool for student's learning. I do not think many people realized how important technology has become. I also learned that we have not been using technology tools at its potential. After the pandemic, I have realized that there are many technology tools that can be used in-person that I didn't know off. I sometimes find it hard  on how to implement technology in math. Which brings me to what matters to me, creativity. Which is one of the topics talked in the article. In the article it states,  " educators are embracing more creative and less traditional methods for students to demonstrate skills and content knowledge." Key word, less traditional!       Creativity is very important to me because I grew up in the traditional teaching method and made math so boring for me. Stud...

Mapping Your Digital Space

The Resident Category Creating my Digital Space map was exciting because I realized I have a lot of apps in my phone. I also realized how I am mostly a visitor in all of them. The few apps I am actually a resident are  TikTok Snapchat Instagram   Twitter     The first three apps are for my personal use and twitter is the only app I use professionally.  I personally use Snapchat for my closest friends and family members.  I have realized I post EVERYTHING on snapchat. Currently, I am avoiding snapchat and I am trying not to post anything anymore. I feel I was getting addicted to posting literally everything I do during the      ( image source ) day.  I actually had Facebook but deleted about 2 years ago due to the fact that I realized I was putting too much personal information online. I, recently, deleted Instagram because I am trying to work  on my personal growth and my mental health. I realized see...
Self-Evaluation Framework: The Triple E Framework What?          The Triple E Framework focus on three strategies: Extend, Enhance and Engage. This framework is used to measure the use of technology in a lesson. The focus is to make sure that the technology is helping students learning. Teacher must evaluate the tools they are using to make sure it's being use correctly and is meaningful. Based on the research done in the  mix-methods study  it is important for teachers to use pedagogical and technology strategies for students to master their learning goals. "It is important that teachers view technology as a tool that can improve student engagement, communication, and collaboration." This can easily be forgotten by teachers. We focus on meeting out objectives that we tend to forget about the tools we need to use to meet the objective. Some teachers are stuck in the old ways of teaching, where there is not much of student-to-studen...
