Self-Evaluation Framework: The Triple E Framework

What?

The Triple E Framework focus on three strategies: Extend, Enhance and Engage. This framework is used to measure the use of technology in a lesson. The focus is to make sure that the technology is helping students learning. Teacher must evaluate the tools they are using to make sure it's being use correctly and is meaningful. Based on the research done in the mix-methods study it is important for teachers to use pedagogical and technology strategies for students to master their learning goals. "It is important that teachers view technology as a tool that can improve student engagement, communication, and collaboration." This can easily be forgotten by teachers. We focus on meeting out objectives that we tend to forget about the tools we need to use to meet the objective. Some teachers are stuck in the old ways of teaching, where there is not much of student-to-student conversation. We loose focus on the triple E framework. Which brings up to why this framework is important.

Why?

As we all lived it, our world came crashing when COVID started and all in person classes switch to online classes. Some college students might say they were used to this idea of online classes but this impacted mostly our k-12th graders. They were not ready nor were the teachers. I have used to many technology in the past year and a half than I ever did before. All the technology strategies used in the classroom was practice tools for students to keep practicing. I love using technology because it makes class more engaging. "The framework is intended to help educators create lessons that allow students to use technology to meet and add value to learning goals as active, social, creative learners, in authentic ways." (source) It also the tool to help educators create meaningful and engaging lessons. "Most frameworks focus on how technology substitutes for traditional tools or if the technology use is creative, but not if the tools were able to actually leverage the learning goals." Which is why Triple E framework is important.

How?

The Triple E framework uses a rubric to measure how significant and productive educators are using this method. Rubric. Based on the strategies given by the Triple E Framework I can say I have done a pretty good job using this method. I am a huge believer in the I do, We do, You do strategy. Love questioning my students of how and why they got the answer that they did. My students get to work together and share ideas with their peers. It is a learning environment where everyone is learning from everyone. At times, I am even learning from students. What I love about all these strategies is how easy it is to monitor my student's learning. "As the U.S. has become focused on standardizing learning and outcomes, making sure that students are using their time to meet learning goals is even more vital when integrating technology." 1. Hi Diana, You make a great point when you talk about some teachers being stuck in their ways and not changing much. Especially when we are talking tech, it changes so rapidly, teachers need to keep up with the latest and greatest because we know our students will be. PD is very important in our field. Great Post!

  2. The Triple-E Framework is an excellent and straightforward way to evaluate the level of technology implementation and the level of engagement the students are receiving! This framework was the other one I contemplated using for myself because of the direct criteria and scoring. However, I used the SAMR model. Thinking about it now, the use of both of these frameworks would help educators truly see the level of creativity and engagement (via the SAMR model) and how well the technology meets the needs of students and the learning goals (via Triple-E). Overall, thank you for your wonderful example and use of the Triple-E framework rubric and how we can use this to monitor our lessons and student learning!

  3. Thanks for the explanation about the Triple E framework and how it focuses more on the impact of technology on the learning goal and not just the use of technology. Can you tell us a bit more about the lesson you evaluated with the Triple E rubric? What technology were you using, and what were the students doing with it?

Digital Tattoos      For this blog, I was really excited to know what Digital Tattoos was all about. I love tattoos and I have some of my own which leads me to think we would be talking about our tattoos. Little did I know that we would be talking about the tattoos we create for each other on the web. Amazing and shocking to know that 81% of two-year-olds have a digital footprint without their knowledge and consent. This shocked me because I never really thought about this deeply enough. I have been sharing pictures of my little cousin ever since she was born. She is now 10 and recently open up an Instagram account. The moment she posted her first picture, which was a picture with her family, I imminently gave her a lecture about social media. But what difference does it make?  I was already sharing pictures of her on the web way before she even open up an Instagram account.  With that being said, once I started doing my own research about myself, one of t...
Reflection      My proposal for the class was to flip the classroom. I had done some research on "Flipped Classroom" in another class before EDU 777 02. For this class, I started implementing slowly with my students. My style of teaching is, I Do, We Do, You Do. It has always worked fine. After learning about flipped classrooms, I started introducing note videos. My goal is to transform and implement my classroom for next semester. So far, I can say that the note videos have helped. I started including the videos for students to use to "catch up" or "review." At first, I had students complain, but later on, I had students say that they liked the videos better than having me teach directly. This was a positive aspect because I thought it was going to be hard for students to be responsible for their learning, especially on days that they were absent. The negative aspect of this is that I have noticed that it is hard for some students to follow along with the...

About Me

Hi! My name is Diana Madrigal       I am currently a Math teacher at Morton West High School located in Berwyn, Illinois. This is currently my 3rd year teaching. Teaching last year was a challenge, specially trying to create all the lessons and activities online. It was hard to keep the class in engage when they wouldn't want to turn on their cameras on. Most of the time I felt I was talking to myself. For this reason, I got really interesting in learning how to become better by using technology at my advantage. I wished I knew how to create and use different websites to make class more engaging. So I am definitely excited to learn from this class, which I am already learning. I have never used this website before! (excited) As a math teacher, I never really write much. Therefore, I do not know how the blogging works but I know I have couple of friends who use it and they make it look very interesting. I am hoping I can learn new thing to use in my classroom, s...
