Social Media Image Source: Social Media is Addictive As a Millennium myself, I think I understand the new generation and their addiction to social media. When I hear the word addiction or someone being an addict I think about a drug addict or an alcoholic. However, this new generation is addicted to their phones, it is happening! This week's topic is a very interesting topic and came in handy. About a month ago, students were destroying bathrooms because it was a "Tik Tok" trend. About a week ago, our school was been threatened by social media. There was a picture going around student's Snapchat that included a gun and it read "Do not come to school, you will all be getting it." The police were involved and as of right now it is to be a fake threat.  After all these accidents, teachers have been forced to talk about the usage of social media. As stated in the article, How to Prepare Students for Social Media Use ,  "We have wholeheartedly adopted socia...
Looking Back! How it started:  GIF Source I was freaking out at the beginning of this class. I think this is one of the challenging classes I have ever taken so far. Besides my personal life, I thought this class expecting too much of me. This class required about 2-3 assignments per week. I was used to doing one assignment each week. I felt overwhelmed at the beginning of class. I was falling behind in all my assignments and I kept losing points on each of my blogs. In the middle of the 4th week, I noticed my grade was also a D so that's when I panic. I knew I had to try to get organized and I had to put in the time to do my assignments. At some point, I think I broke down because I felt I was trying my best but was not seeing results. Instead, I kept seeing my grade drop every week. I definitely was not prepared for this class and that is what made it feel like it was too much. I thought we were going to be doing actual technology projects but I felt like it was like a writ...
Digital Tattoos      For this blog, I was really excited to know what Digital Tattoos was all about. I love tattoos and I have some of my own which leads me to think we would be talking about our tattoos. Little did I know that we would be talking about the tattoos we create for each other on the web. Amazing and shocking to know that 81% of two-year-olds have a digital footprint without their knowledge and consent. This shocked me because I never really thought about this deeply enough. I have been sharing pictures of my little cousin ever since she was born. She is now 10 and recently open up an Instagram account. The moment she posted her first picture, which was a picture with her family, I imminently gave her a lecture about social media. But what difference does it make?  I was already sharing pictures of her on the web way before she even open up an Instagram account.  With that being said, once I started doing my own research about myself, one of t...

Flipping the Classroom

Flipping the Classroom        The Technology plan that I will be using is called “Flipping the Classroom.” The goal is to be able to flip the traditional way of teaching by implementing technology. As we have seen through our pandemic year, technology now plays an important role in teaching. Students were responsible for their own learning for a year. They would meet virtually with their educators. Educators had to improvise with new technology tools. It has been a huge change in education. Therefore, I want to introduce this new plan of flipping the classroom.        Instead of teaching in person, I want students to watch a short video about the notes for homework. The important key here is “short video.” Research has been proved that students lose focus after 10 minutes of an adult talking. Keeping the videos short and simple can guarantee students' learning intake. When educators have students in person, they can work on fun, engaging, and le...
Professional Learning Networks As a professional, I have attended many Professional Developments. However, I never really consider the idea of Professional Learning Networks. I did not consider social media to be a professional tool to network. I have always seen social media as a way to network with my family and friends. More personal rather than professional. I created a Twitter account when I started working at Morton West High School. I think I have used my Twitter account more in the past month than I have ever used it in the past 3 years.  Twitter Picture Source: By Author As I mention earlier, I was using Twitter to show the few amazing things that was going on in my classroom. I would only use Twitter to share within the school. I was nervous to do this assignment because I had no idea how Twitter worked. I would only post and forget about it. My mentality has definitely changed and I was able to learn from others. It was a relief to meet and see other teachers feeling the...
Designing for Accessibility      This week I explored  Elise Roy TED Talk When we design for disability, we all benefit . In her video, she states, "I  believe that these unique experiences that people with disabilities have are what's going to help us make and design a better world for everyone--both for people with and without disabilities."  Having a disability does not make you any less than someone who does not have a disability. In fact, it opens up the world to many different resources for anyone and everyone. Some of the accommodations that are given to people who have a disability are now used by everyone. For example, as explained in her video. She stated that text messaging was design for deft people and it is now used all over the world! Did you know that?  What I love about Elise's TED Talk was the fact that she brought this new idea of switching our mindsets of creating and inventing new things for disability first and not the norm....
